The AppleTV has hardly been a rip roaring success since its launch in 2007, but the top brass at Cupertino appear to believe that a combination of access to the App Store and a new sub-$100 pricetag could change all that.

As always with a new Apple product launch, we wait with baited breath to see what features will be included, so to pass the time we’ve come up with six things we’d like to see packed into the new iTV.

1. 1080p Support

The rumors doing the rounds suggest that, like the iPhone 4 and iPad, and indeed the iTunes Store at the moment, the iTV will not be able to output full 1080p HD video. If true, it would appear to be an almost wilfully contrary move, especially in 2010, when there are plenty of cheap media players already on the market capable of handling this resolution. It would also leave the lingering suspicion that Apple didn’t see fit to include an HDMI out on the iPad purely so as not to cannabilize sales for this upcoming product.

Related to this point, of course we’d like to see wider codec support, but know it’s never going to happen. However, access to the App Store may quickly solve this issue, as CineXPlayer has on the iPhone and iPad.

2. Movie Streaming

And we don’t mean from your local Mac or PC. No, we want the same standard of instant-on movie streaming from the Internet for iTunes rentals that Xbox Live users currently enjoy on their hardware. No waiting around for downloads – let us watch it when we want it. Of course, that might be what Apple’s giant new server farm in North Carolina is for.

3. TV Show Subscriptions

The present pricing scheme on iTunes for TV shows makes using it to catch up on entire seasons of current and varied content an activity reserved for those who like to light their cigars with $100 bills. Apple need to thrash out a more sensible system with the networks to make iTV our first port of call for on-demand television.

4. An Innovative Controller

With no touchscreen, the iTV is going to need a new method of control, and while there will undoubtedly be remote functionality released for the iPhone and iPad, here is where we’d like to see Apple’s renowned design chops really go to town. No more remotes that resemble something from Cape Canaveral please. Perhaps the Magic Trackpad is an indication of where the future of remote control could lay. Of course, an innovative controller would tie into our next point …

5. Gaming

Apple really missed a trick with the original AppleTV by not making it a gaming platform. A games console that also acted as a gateway to the iTunes ecosphere? A far easier sell to the public. Instead, Apple left the way open to Nintendo to clean up this console generation with the Wii, a product that screams “Apple!” from its control method, its marketing and even its onscreen typeface.

Of course, Apple didn’t “get” gaming then. They certainly do now, since the explosion of portable gaming on the iOS devices. With Wii and DS sales stagnating, a gaming-enabled sub-$100 device, with all the benefits the App Store provides, could see Apple hoover up the new “casual” market that the Wii unlocked. It could also blow the wind out of Sony and Microsoft’s sails right before the releases of their respective attempts to appeal to this new audience, the PS3 Move and Xbox 360 Kinect controllers.

6. FaceTime

No, it’s not essential. It probably wouldn’t even get used that often. But it would be utterly cool to be able to video-call distant friends and family and see them on the big screen. Inbuilt webcam it is then, please Apple.

So these are six of the things we would like to see included in the rumored iTV. Some of them we’re likely to get – movie streaming and gaming seem like utter no-brainers – some we probably won’t, but we can live in hope. No matter what Apple does see fit to incorporate in the iTV, you can be sure we’ll be here with the best tips and tricks for making the most out of this latest addition to the Apple family.

Related posts:

The Secret Value of The New Apple TV It turns out that most of what we were hoping...

Netflix – Movies, TV Shows, And More On Your iPhone It didn’t take Netflix long to bring the solid app...

Apple iPad First Impressions iPad Arrival Apple’s iPad release date was yesterday, April 3rd,...

6 Reasons To Jailbreak Your iPhone 4

Hardware

Tips

iPhone

Jailebreak

There is no doubt that the iPhone 4 is one of the most impressive smart phones on the market. Its new hardware and improved software make the device a must have for many. But, while many focus on the positives of the iPhone 4, others are disappointed with what you can’t do with the device out of the box. There is a solution to help users get all the functionality out of their iPhone 4 and now that its officially legal, there is only the threat of a voided warranty keeping some from adding features to their iPhone.

To make the decision a bit easier for you, and to help you make the jump to a more “open” iPhone, we’ve provided a small list of features below that allow you to add functionality to your iPhone. If you haven’t already jailbroken your iPhone or updated to version 4.0.2, you’ll need to do so in order to take advantage of the features detailed in this article.

1. Tether – Your iPhone Keeps You Connected

After you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, you’ll be able to easily add new applications through services like Cydia or Rock. After you’ve installed these applications you’ll be able to use them to download for trials or purchase apps like Tether. Tether does just what it says, it allows you to tether your 3G internet connection on your iPhone to your computer so you can browse the web where ever you go.

It is true that you can enable this feature through AT&T without jailbreaking your iPhone, but for much less than the price of what AT&T would charge you each month, you can tether your iPhone for as long as you keep your iPhone Jailbroken. The App is simple to use and your Mac knows just what to do when its connected to your computer via a USB cable. The price of this app alone and its great functionality is worth a jailbreak to many iPhone owners.

2. MyWi – Turn Your iPhone Into a WiFi HotSpot

If you’re looking for the features of Tether, but want to share that connection with multiple computers where ever you go, then MyWi is just the app for you. After installation and a few configuration steps, you’ll be able to quickly turn your iPhone into a mobile WiFi Hotspot that shares your 3G connection. I found myself extremely thankful for this app during my last vacation to the beach.

After a short thunderstorm knocked out the internet at our beach house, we were able to quickly connect to the internet through the MyWi app on my jailbroken iPhone. This feature has been one that has really encouraged me to keep my phone jailbroken. I’m not sure why its not part of AT&T tethering options.

3. Enhanced Interface & Services

Another benefit of jailbreaking your phone is adding interface gestures. With various apps available through Cydia and Rock you can add functionality like swiping the top status bar to quickly display important settings and options like turning on and off wifi, bluetooth, 3G, and other functionality on the phone. iOS 4 added a lot to the mobile interface with folders and multiprocessing features, but it missed out on the opportunity to take advantage of additional possibilities.

4. Emulators & Games

With a jailbroken iPhone, your phone can quickly become a Nintendo Entertainment System, a SNES, Sega Gensis, and many other classic gaming platforms. Combine your phone with a Wii remote and you’ll have an enjoyable entertainment system with classic games from your childhood in your pocket. There is a lot to say about the ability to play Mario Kart, or Zelda while you wait in line for movie tickets, a concert, or a sporting event.

5. My3G – Trick Your iPhone Apps

We’re not completely sure if its due to potential poor user experience or AT&Ts network, but there are a number of applications that don’t have complete functionality when you’re connected to the internet through 3G. That all changes with My3G that is available on your jailbroken iPhone. My3G makes it so your apps think you’re on a wifi network when you’re not. Thus you’ll be able to use features like facetime when you’re on 3G and not connected to a Wireless network.

If you want a completely functional phone no matter how you’re connected to the internet, then a jailbroken iPhone and My3G is just what you need.

6. IntelliScreen – Enhance Your Lock Screen

Another feature that many iPhone owners wish came standard on their iOS device is the ability for more information on your Lock Screen. With IntelliScreen, you can enhance your lock screen and add widgets like the weather, calendar events, unread email messages, and a complete list of the last SMS messages you’ve received.

You can enjoy all of these information services without sliding to unlock your phone. But be careful, you’d hate for your emails to be read by people that may happen to pick up your phone and check things out without your knowing.

Conclusion

Above are just a few reasons you may want to jailbreak your iPhone 4. If you haven’t upgraded to iOS 4.0.2 and you’d like to enable the features described above then jailbreak the phone and get started. Don’t worry, you can always restore your jailbroken iPhone to factory settings.

iOS 4.0.2 users will have to wait until the next jailbreak options becomes available. It shouldn’t be too long before the hacker community finds a way to open up your version of your iPhone.

Related posts:

How To Jailbreak and Restore Your iPhone 4 It didn’t take long for the hacker community to identify...

How To Jailbreak and Restore Your iPad Ever since the US government essentially made it legal to...

The iPhone 4 Steve Jobs took the stage yet again today to promote...

Get the Most Out of Your Magic Trackpad

Hardware

Tips

Magic Trackpad

It is no secret, Apple believes in touch interfaces. Its almost as if they were inspired by the computer interfaces shown in the movie Minority Report in 2002. Since the success of their iPhone touch interface Apple has introduced more and more touch devices, improved gesture techniques and options on their notebook computers and most recently the Magic Trackpad.

The trackpad of course is believed by Apple to be a viable replacement for the mouse interface. I’m guessing that the Magic Trackpad is part of Apple’s long term plan to prepare users for an operating system on their Macs that combines the best features and functionalities of iOS and OS X. It is true that the trackpad is increasing in capabilities and improving its usability but I’m still a bit doubtful on the ability to replace a tool like the mouse that has been such a central part of the computer experience.

Apple doesn’t seem to be helping their case either. Unlike most Apple products, the installation process for the Magic Trackpad was a bit more complicated. But I must admit that once you have the device installed it is a delight to use. It combines the easy to use trackpad of the Apple Notebooks with a larger surface area that makes it easy to use on the large screen iMacs. As always, the features of the MagicTrackpad is what makes it a great device and what makes it a critical part of the long term Apple strategy.

Magic Trackpad Gestures

The Magic Trackpad’s Gestures are designed to make it easier to interact with files and applications that you’re working with. The trackpad currently supports 12 main gestures.

Point – This gesture is what allows users to navigate around their desktop. It will be interesting to see if Apple incorporates this gesture at some point into the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Click – The gesture allows you to select or interact with an object on your screen

Double Click – Some applications require additional input from the user for interaction. Tapping twice on the Magic Trackpad acts as a double click on the mouse
Right Click – Its been years since Apple only supported 1 button mouse input, but many still believe that “right click” doesn’t exist in the Mac environment. To Right Click on the Magic Trackpad tap the screen with two fingers at once

Click & Drag – To click and drag a window or object around your desktop, tap and hold the trackpad and slide your finger around the pad to drag it around the screen

Two Finger Scroll – One of my favorite features of Apple’s trackpad. To scroll up and down a browser window, through files in Finder or other areas, touch the trackpad with two fingers and slide them up and down, left and right

Rotate – To rotate an image clockwise or counter-clockwise, simple tap two fingers on the trackpad and twist them like you were hands moving on a clock.

Pinch & Zoom – To zoom into or out from an image or object, touch the fingers to a trackpad and either pinch or spread your fingers in an application that supports the input

Screen Zoom – To zoom into a part of your screen, press control and then slide up or down with two fingers on the trackpad

Pageback and Pageforward – Some applications like Safari and iPhoto allow you to quickly jump to the previous page or image. Touch three fingers to the trackpad and swipe left or right.

Switch Applications – To switch between open applications, touch four fingers to the trackpad and swipe left or right

Activate Expose – To enable the expose feature of OS X on your Magic Trackpad, touch four fingers to the trackpad and swipe up and down

The features are a great start for a touch interface interaction with OS X. The multitouch input device is extremely user friendly, filled with advanced features, and even fun to use. Apple’s Trackpads are larger than those found on most other notebooks and after you’ve used one on a Mac, going back to PC trackpads is torture.

If you combine the success of the trackpads with the ever increasing line of touch products like the iPhone, iPad, and iPod, you can quickly see why Apple delivered the Magic Trackpad to consumers. Apple believes that “Touch” is the future and they’re spending considerable amounts of energy to improve their touch products and software. The Magic Trackpad is essentially the trackpad that you’ve fallen in love with on your Mac Notebooks but for use on your iMac, Mac Mini, or Mac Pro. In fact, with the right windows drivers, Magic Trackpad even works on Windows.

The Magic Trackpad is slightly larger than trackpads found on Macbooks and Macbook Pros but fits in perfectly with the look and feel of Apple’s Keyboard and other aluminum casing. The slight angle makes the device comfortable for use and the touch pad itself is of the highest quality. Your fingers won’t stick while navigating around your Mac with this input device.

Installing Your Magic Trackpad

Without the device drivers for the Magic Trackpad, the device is essentially a bluetooth mouse. Turn it on, find it with your Mac Bluetooth settings and its ready to use like any bluetooth mouse on the market. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include all the functionality and features that you’ve come to love on notebook trackpads by Apple.

The steps below detail how to install the Magic Trackpad for use with your Mac:

Insert the Batteries into the Trackpad and turn it onwith the power button

From your Menu Bar, select the Bluetooth icon and Setup a Bluetooth Device.

The setup assistant should find a “Apple Wireless Trackpad”. Connect that device and you’re trackpad is ready to use as a mouse

To enable the extra gesture functionality and have more control over your Magic Trackpad you’ll need to install the Magic Trackpad and Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.0 available from Apple.com.

Install the package after it has finished downloading. Your system may require a reboot

When the Magic Trackpad Update is installed correctly you’ll be able to access its settings from System Preferences >> Trackpad.

Select the One Finger, Two Fingers, Three Fingers, and Four Fingers gestures that you’d like to use with your Magic Trackpad and test them out on your Trackpad

Testing Your Magic TrackPad’s Battery Level

You can quickly and easily identify the battery level for your trackpad by navigating to the Trackpad Settings page. Click System Preferences >> Trackpad and in the bottom left corner you’ll see the Trackpad Battery Level.

Do you have a Magic Trackpad? What do you like and dislike about the mouse replacement? Personally, I believe with the introduction of the Magic Trackpad, this could be opening up some doors for some exciting things maybe from Apple as well as third parties. Will get to this more later. For now, here is the lowdown on Apple’s Magic Trackpad.

<center

The trackpad is made out of the same metal material that is used on the current Macbook Pro Line and the iMacs. The trackpad is about 80% bigger than the normal trackpad found on a Macbook. Check out the difference here. So think of it this way, when I saw it, it is a little bigger than about two iPhones put together. It is the same angle and height of an Apple Keyboard. The trackpad also takes 2 AA batteries and works over bluetooth.

As far as the functionality of the trackpad it is very similar to the track pad on a Macbook or Macbook Pro. You can press and tap just about anywhere on the pad. You can designate the right side of the pad to work as a right click as well. You can also choose to use finger taps instead of pressing on the trackpad, just like you would on a normal trackpad. You will also be able to use finger gestures, such as swipe, rotate, pinch and zoom and scroll. Again, as with the Macbook trackpads, you will be able to customize your trackpad with how you want it to work.

Apple is touting this as a trackpad for the iMac line, which makes sense as the Macbook line already has a trackpad. But, you will still be able to use this with any Mac that you have. Apple has the Magic Trackpad on sale now for $69. So the question now becomes, do you get this over the Magic Mouse?

Well, it kind of depends on what kind of Mac that you have. If you have an iMac or a Mac Mini, I would definitely say go for it. But if you have a Macbook or a Macbook Pro, you already have a trackpad so I don’t see a need for it, unless you just want something bigger. What would be interesting to see is which device is better for your wrist, the Magic Trackpad or the Magic Mouse. For me, that would help me make a better decision as well.

There are a couple of reasons why I think this could be big for Apple fans. The first being that this trackpad design could hopefully open doors for photographers and designers. Although Wacom has done a good job of coming out with their tablets, I think Apple will could possibly do as good if not better. This is a starting point and it would be interesting to see if Apple will try to compete with Wacom for this market.

My other thought here on why this could be big is that I can definitely see how this trackpad may some day be integrated into Apple TV. A new Apple TV has been rumored for a little while now and there could be some significant upgrades to it in the near future and beyond. If Apple is serious about competing in the TV market with the likes of Google, they are going to need to be integrated more into the tv itself, meaning that at some point don’t be surprised to see Apple collaborating with TV makers on some kind of Apple TV. But with that you need a remote as well. Well, this trackpad could very well be a great touch remote for that new Apple TV. Again, this is all speculation, and but the cool thing is that Apple has at least launched this product so that now these rumors can at least possibly become reality.

So what do you think? Do you think you will buy something like this? If you have bought one, what are your first impressions? Do you like it? Why or why not? Feel free to hit us up in the comments with your thoughts.

Related posts:

Get the Most Out of Your Magic Trackpad It is no secret, Apple believes in touch interfaces. I’m hopeful it will be what I need for iPhone 4 protection during those few times that I am unlucky enough to drop my phone.

I wonder if an invisibleShield protected iPhone 4 would offer better protection from a blender… Now that would be an interesting experiment.

Isn’t Engineered Glass Enough?

Apple is quick to point out that their new phones sport engineered glass that is suppose to be 20 times stiffer and up to 30 times harder than the plastic used on previous phones… but it seems that even this engineered glass shatters… well, like glass. Plastic chips and dents but doesn’t have the shatter effect that we see happening to the unfortunate iPhone 4 owners that dropped their phones.

Interestingly enough, Apple also points out that this engineered glass is the same used in the windshields of helicopters. invisibleShield was designed to protect helicopters, so it should be a perfect fit to help protect your iPhone 4.

Click Here To Protect Your iPhone 4

Don’t let yourself fall victim to broken iPhone 4 screens, keep them protected!

Related posts:

Clean Your iPhone 4 Now that you’ve been able to pre-order and purchase your...

Clean Your iPhone Screen I’ll admit that I was a bit surprised when I...

<a href='http://www.maciverse.com/iphone-recall.html' rel='bookmark' title='Permanent Link: iPhone Recall …. This means keeping your iPhone 4 clean, protected, and durable. Especially since we see used iPhone 3GS selling for over $300 on ebay (Check out the completed listings). Your iPhone 4 may pay for itself in 2 years if you can keep it clean and protected.

We’ve mentioned previously how to clean the iPhone and the iPhone 4 won’t be much different. We expect that the special oleophobic coating on the screen will be on the front and back glass of the device. The iPhone 4 could quickly be covered with finger prints. But as we’ve mentioned previously, DO NOT clean the iPhone 4 with cleaning products. This could damage the oleophobic coating and reduce the value of your iPhone.

Apple highly recommends that you keep cleaning the iPhone 4 simple.

How to Clean your iPhone 4

To clean your iPhone 4:

Turn the iPhone 4 off and disconnect it from any cables or power cords.

Use a soft, slightly damp cloth and prepare to wipe the iPhone clean. Be sure not to let any water enter small openings in the iPhone 4

Before starting, be sure no small rocks or dust are on the iPhone 4.

With a circular motion, wipe the damp cloth around the iPhone 4 until oil and fingerprints are completely removed from the phone.

The coating on the iPhone 4 screen and potentially the glass will make keeping it clean important. The coating protects the phone from fingerprints but also makes them more visible

The Best Way to Protect and Keep Clean Your iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 is an amazing device and keeping it clean is important. Protecting the iPhone 4 from damage is also important. The best iPhone 4 protector that I personally recommend is the screens and covers made by invisibleSHIELD. The invisibleSHIELD iPhone 4 products will not only keep your iPhone 4 screen clean but they also help protect it better than any other covers on the market. Their technology comes from efforts to protect US Military Helicopter blades that they have leveraged to create the screen protection for the iPhone 4.

I’ll be looking to invisibleSHIELD to help protect my iPhone 4 and to keep it clean from finger prints. This way, in 2 years when a new highly anticipated Apple iPhone hits the market, I’ll be able to sell on ebay a “near mint” condition iPhone 4 for more than I purchased it for this week.

Have you purchased your iPhone 4? As is custom, Steve started his keynote at the Apple World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC 2010) discussing the recent successes that Apple has had, some quick updates to recently released products (The iPad) and how the company is set to push the envelope again in the mobile market.

It wasn’t long ago that pictures of a “lost” Apple device reached the internet via Gizmodo and detailed specifics of the hardware behind the mobile device Steve Jobs would announce. And with only a few slight comments about the Gizmodo article, Steve quickly went to show off the iPhone 4, the mobile phone that Apple believes will change the market yet again.

Many of the features and capabilities that come with the iPhone 4 have been known since Apple announced their iPhone OS 4 (now renamed iOS 4) was announced but the hardware specifics and the demonstrations of new apps soon to hit the iPhone market again brought the media audience at the WWDC 2010 keynote to applause. We’ll discuss a number of these features below and detail why we believe Steve and Apple when they say that the mobile market is going to change significantly yet again.

iPhone 4 Technical Specifications

Apple’s iPhone 4 is thiner, lighter, and more impressive than the iPhone 3GS. The phone features Apple’s A4 processor that we’ve come to love in the iPad and has an improved design that allows for stronger antenna for increased range and quality of signals (Phone, 3G, and Wifi). Apple’s new phone is designed with two flat glass surfaces (that should be easily cleaned) and features black or white color models. Apple also has added their own “covers” to the mix, what they call bumpers, that add color to your iPhone for a bit of additional customization, personalization, and style. The iPhone 4 will come with either 16GB or 32GB models and sports a new State of the Art Retina Display.

Apple explains that the Retina Display will allow for 960 by 640 resolution on the 3.5 inch screen. This is a considerable increase over previous models and supports over 300dpi, a level of detail the human eye can’t even see. In addition to these features the iPhone also ads a camera to the front and back of the phone with up to 5-megapixel quality images and 720p HD video recording. A Three-Axis Gyro has also been added to the device which we guess will mostly be utilized by video games. The Battery has been made larger and now supports up to 14 hours of talk time, 10 hours of Wi-Fi, 10 hours video playback, and 40 hours of Audio playback.

With the improvement in battery support, the amazing retina display functionality, and HD video recording capability we expect the iPhone will consume more and more electronic devices. Use of applications like Qik will make video sharing easier and more and more “on the go” video will appear on Facebook and other social networks.

The best part about the technical specification improvements over previous models of the iPhone or other mobile devices is that it will continue to push Google and other smart phone makers to build better more capable phones. In this type of environment the consumer wins more and more. Its great to see significant improvements and additional capabilities that iPhone apps will be able to do with the new iPhone 4 hardware.

Best New iPhone 4 Features

Apple is including a number of new features in the iPhone 4 and iOS 4 but some of the best are detailed below. These features are what makes the device a game changer and will be the reason why we expect to see millions quickly pickup their own iPhone.

The most important feature that is also most likely to change the mobile market is FaceTime. Apple has created the ability to allow Face to Face calling on a mobile device by adding a phone to the front and back of the device. You can now call (over wifi networks only for 2010) your friends and family and instantly see how they’re doing, what they’re doing, and what their faces are really telling you during a quick converstaion. Technology has been making face to face communication less common, but Apple hopes to change that with FaceTime. Apple is also making this an Open technology and industry standard which means we should see the functionality and capability on other devices, even those not made by Apple.

Multitasking will allow individuals to do significantly more with their application. The ability to run multiple applications at once changed computers years ago and has already begun in the mobile market with Operating Systems like Android and Palm OS. Its great to see Apple catch up in this are and provide users with more control over the devices. I expect use of applications like Pandora will only increase as listening to streaming music while performing other mobile tasks will only increase. This may impact our data plans so pay attention to your data usage when outside your wifi networks.

Flip and other mobile video recording devices must not be too happy with the iPhone, and we expect the iPod Touch to soon follow, entering the HD Video recording market. Apple’s iPhone will make capturing video on the go more likely and more common. I expect the number of Video Blogs to increase significantly over the next few years.

Small screens require high quality images and Apple has yet again delivered with the Retina Display technology they include in the iPhone 4. This will make using the phone more enjoyable across the board. Images, Video, and Games will look more crisp, support higher resolutions, and provide a better visual experience to users. Each and every app will be improved by this technology update to the iPhone

Additional Features

Apple didn’t stop at just the features mentioned above. More than 100 new features and capabilities will be available on the iPhone 4 with iOS 4 in the coming months. Improved iPhone 4 Parental Controls will allow for restrictions to safari, youtube, itunes, app store, camera, and location service usage to be set to help ensure the privacy and safety of children. Tethering will be made easier but be sure to weigh in the benefits at AT&T’s expensive costs. iBooks will becoming to the iPhone and will quickly sync between your iPad and iPhone. Nike + iPod is also part of iPhone 4 and iOS 4. All the features of the iOS 4 will be available and optimized for usage on the iPhone 4. It will be great to see new great and capable apps hit the store with the new hardware and software updates.

iPhone 4 Price

Apple is selling the iPhone 4 16gb for $199 and the iPhone 32gb for $299. The device can be pre-ordered on June 15th and picked up on the 24th of June. Expect long lines, lots of people, and an amazing device if you decide not to wait. AT&T has made it even easier for current iPhone owners to upgrade to the new device by decreasing the number of months required for upgrade eligibility so be sure to check on your AT&T account to see if you’re able to purchase the iPhone 4.

Related posts:

Clean Your iPhone 4 Now that you’ve been able to pre-order and purchase your...

Netflix – Movies, TV Shows, And More On Your iPhone It didn’t take Netflix long to bring the solid app...

6 Reasons To Jailbreak Your iPhone 4 There is no doubt that the iPhone 4 is one...

Clean Your iPhone Screen

Hardware

Tips

iPhone

I’ll admit that I was a bit surprised when I initially did research into finding the best way to clean your iPad screen and found that it was highly recommended to not use cleaning products. I had previously thought that a window or screen cleaner would work great for cleaning an iPad screen or even for cleaning an iPhone screen.

One of the unfortunate downsides of “touch” interfaces is that the iPhone quickly gets covered with finger prints, oil smudges, and small smudges of dirt. But, cleaning the iPhone screen is easier than one may expect.

How To Clean Your iPhone Screen

Like the iPad, it is highly recommend by Apple to not use cleaning products on the iPhone screen. In particular, cleaning the iPhone 3GS screen should not use products like window cleaners, household cleaners, alcohol or aerosol sprays. Like the iPad, the iPhone 3GS screen is coated with a oleophobic coating that helps make the iPhone Screen Fingerprint proof. Using the previously mentioned cleaning products may damage the coating and increase the number of fingerprints on the glass.

To clean your iPhone Screen:

Turn off your iPhone

Make sure that is unplugged from any cables and electrical outlets

Use a soft, slightly damp cloth but be sure to not let any water or moisture in any of the iPhone openings

Using a circular motion, wipe the iPhone screen until the oil and fingerprints are removed. Be sure that no dust or small rocks are on the screen

The iPhone is a heavily used device and can quickly become scratched or retain significant dirt. the iPhone Screen’s coating helps make it fingerprint proof, but it also makes those fingerprints more visible. This makes cleaning the iPhone Screen even more important.

Best Way to Keep Your iPhone Screen Clean

It is true that a damp wipe cloth can help keep your iPhone screen clean but the best way to protect it is with a screen protector. The best screen protector that I personally recommend is the screens made by invisibleSHIELD that not only keep your iPhone screen clean but they also help protect it like no other screen device. They actually use technology developed to protect the US Military Helicopter blades to create the screen protection for the iPhone and other mobile devices. If you have this screen protector your phone won’t only stay clean, but you won’t have to worry about it getting scratched up or damaged either. It is also backed by a lifetime warranty!

Related posts:

Clean Your iPhone 4 Now that you’ve been able to pre-order and purchase your...

Clean Your iPad Screen One of the initial concerns for many iPad owners is...

Protect your iPad If you’ve recently purchased an iPad, than you’re probably very...
