As you get ready for that summer road trip or that long plane ride and if you are anything like me, you need something to pass the time while you are on that plane ride or long car ride. I love to watch movies in times like these. It helps the time to pass a lot quicker. But I also hate to bring my Macbook with me because it has such a short battery life as compared to my iPhone or iPad. This post is to show you how to get your DVD’s onto your iDevice of choice.
Unfortunately, you would think that you could just put your DVD onto your computer and then put it into iTunes and then you have your movie on your iPhone or iPad, right? The bad news is that, it isn’t that easy. The format of the DVD is different than what you can put on your iPhone or iPad. But, on the flip side, if you know what you are doing, it actually is pretty easy. Let me show you how.
First, you have to download a free application called HandBrake. You can get it here. This application will reformat your movie so that you can play it on your iDevice. Once you have the application downloaded on your computer, go and choose a DVD you want to use. For this post, I chose The Bucket List. Inser the DVD into your Mac and then open up Handbrake. Handbrak will then ask you to locate your DVD. Find your DVD and highlight it and click Open.

The next thing you are going to want to do is pick a destination for where Handbrake should send your reformatted movie. For me, the easiest thing to do is to send it to my desktop. To pick a location hit the “Browse” button under the “Destination” heading and pick a place to send the movie. The next thing you are going to want to do is choose the output settings. The nice part about Handbrake is that it can automatically choose the right format for your movie. Click on the “Toggle Presets” button in the top right hand corner.
You will then see a sidebar pop out with a bunch of different outputs. You will see that Handbrake has made it simple for you in that all you have to do is choose which Apple product you are planning to format the movie for. For example, if you want to watch the movie on your iPhone, you would choose iPhone. If you want to format the movie for the iPad, choose “Normal”, under the “Regular” tab.

Once this is done, you can now click the “Start” button and the movie will now start reformatting to the device of your choice.

Now you just have to be patient and wait for Handbrake to do its thing. It may take a little while, so be patient. Once the movie is done being reformatted, you now have to get the movie into iTunes so that you can put it on your device. At this point, open up iTunes and all you have to do is drag and drop the movie into the “Movies” tab in your iTunes.

Once this is done, you can now sync your device and the movie should now copy over. You are going to want to make sure that you have checked the box in the “Movies” tab in your device settings so that the movie will actually transfer over.

From here, you should be good to go. Now your movie is on your device of choice.

As you can see, it is pretty easy to get your videos formated for the device of your choice. One thing to note with Handbrake, as you can tell from looking at the app there are a lot of extras within the app. If you are just looking to reformat a DVD to play on another device, then you don’t need to worry about all these other features. I know for some it can be overwhelming to see all the other features on Handbrake. But, really you don’t need all of the extras. Let me know if you have any questions. One of the products that helped launch Apple Inc. back into the spotlight of computers and electronics was the iPod. Since the original release of the device that put 1,000 songs in your pocket, Apple has created multiple types of iPods to fit the different music needs of consumers everywhere.
To help keep listeners informed about what exact music their listening to or the playlist they’ve selected, Apple has included their latest technology called “Voice Over” that speaks back to listers the details about the songs they’re listening to.
