An Overview of Popular Dating Apps

The world of dating and relationships has changed dramatically as mobile technology innovations have continued to evolve. Many relationships, both long-term and casual, now start online, specifically on dating apps. There’s plenty of them out there, so let’s take a look at four of the most popular dating apps today and compare.

Tinder

Tinder continues to dominate the dating app landscape. It shows you potential matches in your area and you can swipe right to match with someone and swipe left to move on, a feature copied by many other apps. Tinder continues to be popular with millennials and is the most used app for that age group according to a new survey from SimpleTexting. Once you’re matched with someone, you have the option to send them a message.

Most Popular Dating App

Bumble

Bumble is similar to Tinder in that you can swipe right or left to match or not. Where Bumble differs from Tinder is that women are the ones who then have to initiate contact. Men no longer have to come up with a witty one-liner and women can decide on the tone of the conversation right from the get-go. One interesting thing about Bumble is that matches expire in 24 hours. That means you have to move (relatively) fast!

OKCupid

OKCupid provides a much more in-depth look at a person before you decide to match with them. It takes some commitment to get started — you have to fill out a full survey of questions for your profile. While that may take some time, it also means you learn more about the other person. You also know that the other person is serious if they took all the time to complete their profile.

Hinge

Hinge markets itself as a ‘relationship’ app, as opposed to a swipe right, swipe left dating app like Tinder or Bumble. In the app, you fill out your ‘story’ (similar to your profile on OKCupid). From there, the app matches you with people and you can look at their story. You can like or comment on select parts of their story if you want, and others will do the same for you. Then, you can respond to the people who have liked and commented on your story.
In today’s dating scene, there’s plenty of ways to meet new people without even getting off your couch. Apps have allowed people to browse potential matches seemingly ad nauseum. But where to start, and which app is the right one? Well, some of that is up to you and what you are looking for, but there is definitely a dating app out there that’s a match for you.
